Brace Yourselves: Big Changes are Coming!

Our construction crew continues to make progress on our new wing despite the ups and downs we've had in the weather.  I've resorted to wearing one glove to school this week -- I heard it might get cold, but on the other hand it might not.

We hope you haven't had your fill of construction photos (or jokes), because backfilling has begun.

Hold up -- what are these orange things in our construction site? They're supports to keep our walls in place during the backfilling process!

Don't let the number of supports cause any worry over the state of our walls -- they're in stable condition. This is just part of a process that will help us gain back some spaces in our parking lot.

As backfilling begins, the pile of dirt in the parking lot will disappear. How does that old saying go...let's make a molehill out of a mountain?

Waterproofing is being extended up the foundation walls so that the backfilling can continue. This will ensure that the foundation stays nice and dry in the ground even if it rains or snows.

By the way, have you heard the joke about the three holes in the ground filled with water? Well, well, well...

The Hole Month in Review

We thought it was about time we piped up about the digging that's occurring near the side of our building.  Here are a few snapshots of the progress:

The area between the field and the school building has been excavated to make room for drainage pipes to be placed in the ground.

Although it's hard to keep our eyes off the digging, we're not letting our tunnel vision prevent us from seeing the big picture: the drainage pipes are a key part of the construction process leading us towards our new wing!

At this point, the delay in getting the drainage pipes covered is just water under the bridge. Rebuilding this area will be a walk in the park!

Two Steps Floor-ward

Construction continues, and we're sure you'll be floored by our progress last week!  (Please note: if construction-related jokes were a crime, we'd be punder arrest for this post.)

We had some impressive cement mixers and concrete pumps towering over our construction site. After the concrete and steel work is completed, things will start coming together quickly -- walls will go up, the roof will go on, and the new wing will really start taking shape.

We'd tell you a joke about the new roof, but it might be over your head...

The walls are coming along nicely -- here's a view from the edge of the construction site.

By the way, did you hear the joke about the tall wall?  It was so hilarious, we're still trying to get over it.

Here's a groundbreaking perspective: a view from inside the new wing!  You can see some of the leveling work taking place to get our future flooring nice and even.

Concrete Progress

Our construction crew has been working on the walls of our future wing. Please enjoy a few pictures of the concrete progress we've made over the past two weeks!

Our construction crew built forms for the walls and added rebar for reinforcement.  When that was all done, they poured in the concrete.

While we're on the topic of building, do you know how a penguin builds its house?  Igloos it together.

Here's a snapshot of one of the concrete mixing stations.  Once the concrete arrived, the construction crew's job just kept getting harder and harder.

After the concrete set, the external framing was removed. Check out these walls!

Stay tuned for updates on the steel work -- I'm sure it will be riveting.

Not Just Another Brick in the Wall

We hope you've been enjoying our construction jokes; otherwise this post is going to drive you up the wall.  We're having too much pun to stop now!

Our construction crew has been working hard all week -- they haven't hit a wall yet and have continued making progress.

These will be the future walls of our black box theater.

Did you hear we're doing a theatrical performance about puns?  It's really just a play on words.

While our construction is going on, the parking lot is a little smaller than usual.  A lot of students and teachers have been biking to help make room for cars in the lot.  Our bike rack is looking nice and full this week!

By the way, why didn't the bike stand?  Because it was two-tired.

Where the Sidewalk Begins

This week's construction update: more rebar is being installed and a new sidewalk is in the works!

Despite the rain this week, our construction crew has been out creating the rebar framework for our future walls.

A new sidewalk is being built around the construction site for safe passage from the parking lot to the entrance.

By the way, did you hear the joke about the sidewalk? It's all over town.

Here's a quick snapshot of the site on Friday afternoon.  Construction is coming along!

A Few Steps Forward

An uplifting post to close out the week: foundation work continues and some concrete steps have been created! (Yes, this post is full of hy-stair-ical puns.)

A shot of the construction site on Thursday afternoon. In addition to the rebar, the concrete of the foundation is beginning to take shape.

I'd tell you a funny construction joke, but I'm still working on it.

The lower windows along the wall of the building have been removed and soundproofing has been added to reduce noise inside the school building.

You can never trust stairs -- they're always up to something. These steps are looking great, though!

This Week's Sensation: Foundation Formation!

The foundation for the new wing is underway.  Here's a look at Siena's construction site at the beginning of this week:

Our construction crew is working hard to lay the foundation for the new wing.

Here's a slightly different view of the progress on the foundation.  You can really see the new wing taking form!

On another side of the school building, the bleachers and stairs near the playground have been completely removed.

Taking Shape

Our construction crew has been busy the past few weeks, and we've had painters around school making some amazing cosmetic changes!

We're starting to see the outline of the new wing near the parking lot.

A set of brown exterior doors are in the process of being painted a brighter white.

Our construction crew is starting to take out the bleachers and stairs next to the playground.

Oh Deer, an Unexpected Visitor!

Deer jokes? We're not fawn of 'em.

We had a guest in our construction site one evening last week

Another Day, Another Dig

After a week of digging, our construction crew has made some amazing progress!

New Digs

This week, our construction crew is continuing to dig out the area where our new addition will go.

Moving Dirt

Today has been an amazing day of digging at Siena.  We have seen so many trucks leaving school full of dirt as the hole is dug down deep to make room for the new black box theater.  We are excited to see what the site will look like next week.

Just Keep Digging, Just Keep Digging...

This week was an exciting one at Siena: our construction crew began digging out the area where the new wing will go!

The chimney is gone and digging began early this week

The old sidewalk was broken up...

...then scooped away
